1. Word Processing
This is a program used for typing documentsÖ a replacement for the typewriter. You will use word processing for writing your business plan, letters, contracts, etc.
Example: Microsoft Word

2. Spreadsheet
This is a program used for calculating numbersÖa replacement for a notebook & calculator. You will use these for your financial statements: cash flow, income statement, and balance sheets. Example: Microsoft Excel

3. Database
This is a program used for storing informationÖa replacement for a rolodex. You will use this for contact names, creating mailing labels, tracking purchases, etc.
Example: Microsoft Access

4. Desktop Publishing
This is a program for designing documentsÖa replacement for the cut, paste, & photocopy method of creating materials. You will use this for creating flyers, brochures, business cards, etc. Example: Microsoft Publisher

5. Bookkeeping
This is a program for tracking revenue and expensesÖa replacement for paper ledgers. You will use this for recording all your sales, purchases, payroll, inventory, etc. Example: Inuit Quickbooks

6. Internet Browser
This is a program for "surfing the web"Ö a doorway to the Internet. You will use this for communicating via e-mail, researching your industry, finding suppliers, etc.
Example: Netscape Navigator
